Ariss Rider is a proud Texas native and has lived most of her life between Dallas and San Antonio, Texas. She is the youngest of four girls and has always been curious and ambitious about life. So much so that she skipped the last two years of high school in pursuit of a career in medicine at the Texas Academy of Math and Science. However, after graduating from the University of North Texas, she got a small taste of teaching and was hooked immediately when she saw the eyes of students lighting up every day.
Five years into her teaching career, Mrs. Rider continued her studies and received a master’s degree in Education Administration from Texas A & M University at Commerce. She taught for nine more years before moving into an administrative role. Mrs. Rider has served in education over 23 years as an assistant principal, central office coordinator and a campus principal. During her tenure as principal, Ariss successfully served as a turnaround principal of an Improvement Required elementary campus as well as led the top magnet middle school in Dallas ISD. Both experiences allowed her to work diligently to ensure that families and students had equal access to a high-quality education and individualized support services.
Ariss was most recently appointed as a Director in the Racial Equity Office in Dallas ISD. She is currently working on her doctoral degree from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor.
In her spare time, Ariss enjoys reading, movies, running, and spending time with her husband and two children.
