“Today’s new training guidelines will help us mitigate the impacts of implicit bias and ensure every patient in Michigan receives the best possible care. These rules will save lives and improve health outcomes for generations of Michiganders, especially those who have been historically and systemically discriminated against. They will make Michigan safer, healthier, and more just.” – Governor Gretchen Whitmer, State of Michigan
“Implicit, unconscious bias exists within each of us, and as public servants we have a duty to understand and address how our biases can impact the lives of others.” – Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, State of Michigan
“As a member of the Racial Disparities Task Force, I am proud to see Governor Whitmer and the state of Michigan adopt our implicit bias recommendation.” – Renee Canady, CEO of The Michigan Public Health Institute
“Implicit bias (IB) in health care is such a relevant topic at this time. IB is a barrier to diversity and health equity. As a nurse educator, I have the responsibility to ensure that future nurses are informed and aware of their unintentional discrimination and the impact it has on health outcomes.” – Lynn Schmidt Ph.D., RN, CNE – Dean, School of Nursing and Kinesiology at Anderson University
