Your CQ® report now includes commentary that connects your scores to the work you actually do, the situations you described, and how you prefer to operate.
The CQ® Assessment has been rigorously validated and cited in over 1,000 research studies to show that CQ measures and predicts one’s effectiveness in cross-cultural interactions. Over the past 20 years, we have assessed the four key CQ capabilities in over 300,000 individuals.
Not all individuals who take the assessment are able to put the results into proper context. A CQ Drive score of 62 means something different to a nurse manager in Manchester, England than it may to an aircraft mechanic in Phoenix, Arizona.
Our amazing facilitators have always bridged that gap in debrief sessions. As the use of the assessment has grown and technological shifts have occurred, there has been a growing lack of or even incorrect context for the results.
So we added a step. When you take the assessment, you or your participants can now share a little about your role, your background, and a few real situations you’ve faced. The report uses that to provide better context for the results that users are seeing. This allows them to take stronger action and be more prepared for a debrief session.
At the end of the assessment you’re asked whether you’d like personalized commentary. Nothing is pre‑selected- everything is optional. If you don’t opt in, you get the standard report.
A short set of questions about your role, where you live, and a few situations where cultural differences mattered. Short answers are fine. There are no right or wrong answers.
Your scores and your answers are sent to Claude, an AI service from Anthropic, with instructions written by our CQ® research and product team. It writes one section for each capability.
Each capability section includes the commentary next to your score. It’s labeled clearly as AI‑assisted, and you can turn the feature off at any time.
Same score. Same research. More detailed feedback.
Standard Commentary
Your CQ Knowledge score reflects a moderate understanding of how cultures are similar and different. People with this level of CQ Knowledge generally recognize that cultural values shape behavior but may benefit from a deeper understanding of specific cultural systems and norms.
Personalized Commentary
You’ve spent six years managing a warehouse team where most of your staff grew up in a different country than you did. Your responses show you already read the room well in practice: you mentioned changing how you give corrections after noticing a crew member go quiet. What’s less developed is the vocabulary for why that worked, which makes it harder to pass on to your shift leads.
The commentary references the situations you described and the work you do. It explains what a score looks like in your week, not in the abstract.
Standard advice is not always applicable, but each section offers practical, actionable strategies.
The commentary adapts to how you communicate, including the spelling and conventions of where you live. It doesn't assume anything about you from your background.
People come to debriefs having already connected their scores to their own experience, so facilitation time goes to development instead of interpretation.
Every participant gets a personalized read of their results, whether your program has twelve people or twelve thousand and whether or not a debrief is part of it.
Program administrators decide whether the option is offered. Participants decide whether to use it. Scores and the validated CQ® Scale are untouched either way.
A cultural intelligence assessment asks people about their backgrounds, so we designed the data handling to match.
No. Scores come from the validated CQ® Scale and are calculated the same way for everyone. The commentary reads your scores; it doesn’t produce them.
That’s fine. The commentary works with what you give it. The more concrete the situations you describe, the more specific it can be, but short answers still produce useful feedback.
No. Your country of residence is used only for spelling and formatting conventions. The commentary responds to what you wrote and how you scored, not to what people from your background are “supposed” to be like.
Only you have access to your personalized commentary, unless you choose to share it. Our system anonymizes the commentary results, so even if CQC employees access it for quality review, we don’t know who generated it.
Yes. Program administrators control whether the option is offered. When it’s on, each participant still makes their own choice.
Please don’t. Describe situations in general terms (“a colleague from our Singapore office”) rather than identifying individuals.
Yes. Just go to Program Settings and check the box for “Enable AI Feedback Reports”.
Yes. If you take a new assessment, you will have the option to opt-in to receive AI feedback. If you already took your assessment and did not opt-in, you can opt-in right from your dashboard.
The AI feedback is available on all CQ® assessments that use percentiles in the feedback reports:
Only your assessment scores and survey responses are sent to Anthropic for processing once you opt in.
Anthropic processes your answers to write the commentary and does not use them to train its AI models. Its standard commercial retention period is 30 days, after which the data is deleted from its systems. You can read Anthropic’s data retention policy for details.
Personalized commentary is included in every online CQ® report. Take the assessment on your own, or bring it to your team or organization.
Complete the CQ® Standard Assessment online and get your report the same day, with commentary written around your own role and experience.
Offer the assessment to a team, a cohort, or an entire organization. Administrators choose whether personalized feedback is available; each participant chooses whether to use it.
