CQ Connects EP1: Why one-and-done training fails and how to fix it.

The first episode of CQ Connects, hosted by Polly Collingridge and joined by Quinton Pretorius.

Originally aired on June 3rd, 2026

Turning training into behaviour change remains a challenge for many HR professionals.

Our individual behavioural preferences are shaped by a lifetime of personal experiences. Yet in 2026, more than half of UK training courses last a single day or less, and most don’t change how we think, reflect and act at work.

Studies show that without reinforcement, learners forget up to 70% of information within 24 hours and 90% within a week. Unless the new skills are integrated into daily routines over time, old habits will quickly reappear.

In our first online episode of CQ Connects, we’re chatting to Quinton Pretorius, a CQ Fellow who believes that embracing a practice of continuous development can be the antidote to the traditional one-and-done approach.

Hosted by Polly Collingridge, we’ll be discussing why place-based learning, shared reflection, and immersive experiences will drive lasting behavioural change in a world moving ever more quickly.
