The CQ Spotlight initiative aims to showcase stories about the impactful work that CQ Certified Facilitators do at home and abroad. The CQ Spotlight for this quarter is Dustin Chandler!
Dustin Chandler is the President and Co-Founder of Interaction Advisory Group (IAG). IAG specializes in training law enforcement and other first responders how to safely interact with individuals with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities. Dustin is a former police officer and is father to a child with developmental disabilities which allows him to bring a unique perspective to IAG’s training sessions. In 2021 Dustin completed both the CQ® Certified Facilitator and Unconscious Bias Train-the-Trainer certification courses.
Dustin will be using his knowledge of autism, developmental disabilities and CQ to enhance IAG’s current training curriculum. Through a strategic partnership with the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University, Dustin will work alongside faculty to create an enhanced training curriculum that will help attendees have a better understanding of developmental disabilities and at the same time help them better comprehend their own CQ.
“It’s critical for law enforcement to understand the nuances of developmental disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder. I think it is important for officers to have knowledge of their own CQ to ensure fair and safe interactions with not only individuals with disabilities, but others as well,” stated Chandler.
“Incorporating key components of CQ will enhance officers’ ability to gain understanding of others when critical decisions are being made. I understand police work and know at times, officers must make split second decisions depending on the situation. Our goal is to help officers, as we like to say, “Know Before You Go”, meaning to understand certain aspects of interactions prior to having to make decisions. Our number one priority is officer and citizen safety and fair treatment for everyone.”
